Plaça Major de Vallada, 2018-2019

The square’s inadequate layout, which is currently used as a parking lot, hinders pedestrian movement and public use. The project proposes to repurpose its surface area for pedestrian and leisure zones. The design accommodates potential temporary uses, highlights the surrounding architecture, and takes advantage of sunlight through strategic tree placement to create both sunny and shaded areas. It ensures universal accessibility to public buildings, homes, and businesses by creating a shared-surface paving design for both vehicles and pedestrians. The furniture is movable, allowing it to adapt to changes throughout the square’s annual event schedule. The construction work will also be used to renew urban infrastructure and replace the lighting, which will now be suspended from above, freeing the public space of light poles.
